Top 100 Ontario Festivals & Events Celebrated

(Woodstock, ON) The Via Rail Canada sponsored Top 100 Festivals & Events in Ontario (for the period April 2008-March 2009) were announced March 7 at FEO’s 23rd annual Conference at the Holiday Inn Burlington Hotel & Conference Centre.

Festivals & Events Ontario (FEO) President Sarah Wood states “FEO is honored to recognize the Top 100 Festivals & Events for 2009. This group represents the leading 4% of the approximately 2,500 annual festivals and events staged each year in Ontario. Most of these events can be accessed through the services provided by VIA Rail and their mode of travel that supports our green initiatives. We would like to once again thank VIA Rail for sponsoring this recognition award and supporting the festival and event industry with this partnership.”

Notice: Pesticides Ban

Issue:

Pesticides ban takes effect April 22, 2009.

Background:
The ban prohibits the sale and use of pesticides for cosmetic purposes on lawns, gardens, parks and school yards, and includes many herbicides, fungicides and insecticides. Over 250 products will be banned for sale and more than 80 pesticide ingredients will be banned for cosmetic uses.

There are exceptions for public health or safety reasons such as fighting West Nile Virus, killing stinging insects like wasps, or controlling poison ivy and other plants poisonous to the touch. Agriculture and forestry are also exempted.
The ban takes the place of existing municipal pesticide bylaws; it establishes one set of rules across the province. The regulation can be viewed at HERE :

Solar and Wind Workshop

February 20, 2009, Lanark, ON – Are you concerned about the cost of your energy bills? Interested in alternative power sources? Do you want to know how to apply for grants for home energy conservation projects? Then this workshop is for you!

The Art of Being Green Festival is hosting an Energy Workshop on Saturday March 28th at the Middleville Community Centre. The workshop runs from 9 a.m. to 12 noon, followed by a local flavours lunch prepared by festival volunteers. The cost for the workshop including lunch is $20 and proceeds will be used to support the 2009 Art of Being Green Festival.
